![]() ![]() Place the new scale in the "In the printout" and "In SketchUp" boxes with the correct units in the drop down boxes and check to be sure that new scale will fit on your paper size. If your printer doesn't handle a page that size then use these numbers to figure out a printing scale that works. If you want to print 1:1 then you need to print on paper at least as large as indicated in the "Width" and Height" boxes under "Page size". You can figure out if the paper you are using is large enough for a 1:1 printout, or conversely, figure out the scale you need to use to print on one page by putting a 1 in both "In the printout" and "In SketchUp" boxes and the same units in the drop down boxes beside them. Uncheck "Fit to page" and "Use model extents". If you don't you will end up printing on multiple pages when you only need one. So if you are going to print to any scale, including 1:1, first resize you drawing window so there is a minimum amount of unused drawing area on all sides of your drawing. Also, there is a printing behavior that I consider a bug when it come to printing to scale. Before going any further let me say that the Google SketchUp (Pro) User Guide is misleading, inaccurate and incomplete when it come to printing instructions. Before printing go to File/Print Setup and choose your printer, paper size and paper orientation (portrait or landscape) that best suits your model's aspect ratio. However, your paper and printer have to accommodate the end result. You can print at a scale of 1:1 or any other scale you desire. The last step is a little complex so here is a more detailed description. Set your scale in the print dialog and print Select one of the standard views (Camera menu or toolbar button)ģ. Select Parallel projection (Camera menu)Ģ. In our example, we total width and height of the components are not wider or heigher than a A3 real paper sheet.Printing to scale requires the following steps:ġ. Make sure you ‘practice’ several times, and also that your components are scaled properly to the right size using the correct paper size. In our example, we could fit the drawing into one single page.Ĭlicking OK will show the model ‘fitted’ to one single page, as it was supposed to be on the first place. Once we have adjusted or fitted the drawing to the SketchUp window, we are ready to go again to File > Print Preview. Use the zoom in and out to accurately fit your drawing to the SketchUp screen.Ī hint would be resizing the SketchUp window (restore the window, not maximize). With the help of the magnifying glass, we must fit the drawing within the SketchUp window. This is incorrect, as we have enough space to print it in just one page. Now, in this example, the total pages to print are 4.īy clicking OK, we can see the 2D drawing is being displayed in 4 pages. On the Print Size, uncheck ‘Fit to page’ and ‘Use model extents’īy changing the scale: 1 In the Printout and 100 in SketchUp, the Page size dimensions will change automatically. Select your printer, paper size and paper orientation. This issue is the result of SketchUp using foreshortening, or a technique of shortening lines to create a 3D effect on a 2D medium such as paper. Note: Even though paraline projection is used to get an output that is to scale, not all angles will be measurable to a scale. ![]()
